The Conversation Society: Obesity: The Debate Begins…Part 4

Posted: April 7, 2011 in Food & Drink, Healthcare, Lifestyle

Ahead of the next Conversation Society event on 11 May, 2011, we decided to take a look back at last year’s event to share the discussions and insights we learnt:

Carrie Longton then shared her insight into what mums look for when buying food for their family:

“Food has to look good and taste good. Mums are the guardian’s of the nation’s waistline. Its really important to present food in the right way – even packaging can impact on whether or not a child will eat it.”

She continued by offering advice on how brands can help parents and how parents can help brands:

“Brands need to talk to mums so that they help with making sure our children are eating the right foods. Consult us and we can help you get this right. Getting mums to cook and make the right food is important and a forum like Mumsnet can help brands do that. For example all of the recipes on the site come from Mums and based on their own experiences. We need transparency on all food items , we don’t mind brands telling us some foods aren’t healthy but if presented as part of a balanced healthy diet its more acceptable.”
